President Project Home Balears

• Born 31 August 1941 in Vilafranca (Mallorca, Spain).

• Studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminario de Palma de Mallorca

• Degree in Philosophy at the University of St Thomas Aquinas, Rome (Italy).

• Degree in Philosophy and Humanities at the University of Valencia.

• Degree in Educational Science at the University of Barcelona.

• Bachelor’s degree in Theology at the universities of Sant Pacià and Sant Cugat (Barcelona).

• Founder and President/Director of the Hombre Libre Foundation (Projecte Home Balears) since 1987 to present day.

• President of the Executive Commission of the Hombre Libre Foundation since 30 June 1990, the date the trust was founded.

• Founder and first President of the magazine Proyecto.

• National President of the Proyecto Hombre Association, June 1996 to February 2003.

• Founder and vice-president of the Proyecto Joven Foundation.

• Member of the board of the WFTC (World Federation of Therapeutic Communities), which has its headquarters in New York, and Co-President of the Membership Committee.

• Member of the “Drugs NO” Committee and organiser of anti-drugs football matches.

• First Secretary General and then President of the RIOD (Latin American Network of NGOs for drug-abuse prevention). Re-elected President for three further years in September 2002.

• President of the Organising Committee of the 22nd Congress of the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities, held in April 2004 in Palma de Mallorca.

• Has received the following awards on behalf of the Proyecto Hombre Association:

• Gran Cruz de la Orden Civil de la Solidaridad, 1996.

• Gran Cruz Blanca awarded by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior’s National Drugs Plan, 1997.

• Silver Medal for Merit in the Area of Social and Prison Work, 1998.

• PSM (Socialist Party of Mallorca) Award for Social Action for the Projecte Home Balears.

• Balearic Islands UGT (General Union of Workers) First of May Distinction for the Projecte Home Balears. May 2008.

• White Cross for Merit in the Area of Police Work for the Projecte Home Balears. Awarded by the Director General of the Police and the Civil Guard. 2 October 2008.

• Ramón Llull Award, Autonomous Region of the Balearic Islands.

• Citation of the Order of Isabel la Católica, 2002.

• The City of Palma de Mallorca Gold Medal, 31 December 2002.

• 1st Concord Award, Rotary International, 1992.

• Carlo Corsini Award for Services to the Community, 2000-01.

• Expression of gratitude and recognition from the Latin American Federation of Therapeutic Communities, 2004.

• Expression of thanks from the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities for his dynamism and leadership, April 2004.
