Chairman, Denver Sports Commission
Mr. McConahey is one of the founders and the immediate past chair of the Metro Denver Sports Commission which was created to attract and host major domestic and international sporting competitions and related events thereby contributing to the social and economic vitality of the City of Denver and the state of Colorado. The Commission hosted Sportaccord in March of 2009 and has hosted numerous events in basketball, lacrosse, curling, hockey, volleyball, rugby and gymnastics as well as other sporting events and conferences. Among other projects, the Commission is currently seeking to host matches for the World Cup should the US be awarded the Cup in 2018 or 2022, the world lacrosse championships, and the FIS Big Air competition. With the events the Commission has already hosted and its plans for the future, it will add to the long list of national and international championships that have been hosted in the state of Colorado.
Mr. McConahey’s business career has been in financial services having been President, CEO and Chairman of both regional and national brokerage and investment banking firms. He has served on numerous corporate boards as well as state and local non-profit boards in the areas of economic development, youth services, education and culture. His national involvement includes serving as a member of the United States Ski and Snowboard Foundation Board, the Advisory council for the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation Board of Trustees.
Earlier in his career, Mr. McConahey was a consultant for McKinsey and Company and served in the White House as a special assistant to President Gerard R. Ford.
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
