Sergio de Mello e Souza is one of the founding directors of BRASIL 1, a sports and entertainment company that organizes events such as the Rio LPGA CUP, Brasil Surf Pro (Brazilian national surfing tournament), Brazil stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race and the Megaramp (Skate & BMX) among others. On the entertainment side, he was responsible for the recent The Police, Elton John and Radiohead concerts in Rio de Janeiro, among many others. He has also coordinated the greening of many events and used them as a platform to engage the public and raise public awareness on environmental causes.
Sergio has a BA in Design from Univercidade, Rio de Janeiro, and has studied Sports Marketing and Entertainment at NYU.
Early in his career he worked for the State Tourism Commission and helped develop an environmentally friendly approach for the industry. Sergio has been involved with non-profit organizations since 1988, and has participated in many projects, including a research program for the Atlantic Rainforest, and later an educational campaign in the northeast of Brazil to stop the slaughter of dolphins and to protect manatees.
He also organized campaigns and special events for the Rio 92 Eco-Conference. He joined the Surfrider Foundation Global Board of Directors in 2008 , and has been an active supporter of the organization since 2002.
He has coordinated the greening of events such as the Rio Live Earth Concert, The Police Tour in Brazil, the Volvo Ocean Race in Rio, the LPGA Rio CUP and Megaramp Brasil.
Sergio also created an event called “Eu Neutralizo” (I Neutralize) for the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Gardens, which focused on educating people about global warming.
Sergio is an entrepreneur who uses his leadership skills to promote sustainability.
