"A place for exchanging ideas" "Sport is everywhere. It’s on street-corner billboards, on TV, in school playgrounds, in stadiums, in the way organizations are managed and even in the way you dress and move around. It is a powerful and efficient means for conveying a message to a large number of stakeholders, be they individuals, companies or institutions. Sport breaks through boundaries because it inspires these stakeholders to act by launching daring and innovative projects designed to improve people’s way of life. Sport allows people to challenge and surpass themselves even in the toughest of circumstances. Sport as a mirror of society: that is the DNA of the Global Sports Forum Barcelona. Yet sport is also more than that. Sport shapes, impacts on and guides our society in many different areas: from education, health and economics to social change, arts, culture, geopolitics and public policies. All of these themes will be discussed at the Forum through a variety of interactive formats that highlight the many synergies sport can generate, with the issue of sustainability providing the leitmotif for the event programme. The key objective is to bring together high-profile stakeholders in sport from a broad range of backgrounds and generate wide-ranging, quality debate. The ultimate goal is to reach different communities and give them a better understanding of the essential role sport has to play in today’s society. The Global Sports Forum Barcelona aims to provide a meeting place where stakeholders in sport and other institutions can exchange views about the achievements and opportunities they have generated through the medium of sport. Last year’s inaugural event managed to reach these aims and the Global Sports Forum Barcelona 2010 will place an even stronger emphasis on the interactive dimension by providing many opportunities and resources for networking. Sport is an integral part of our everyday life and evokes a wide range of emotions in all of us. For that very reason we should make it a vehicle of social progress, and the Global Sports Forum Barcelona 2010 represents an excellent opportunity for you to find out how to make that goal a reality. I sincerely look forward to meeting and exchanging ideas with you next March. "Lucien BoyerGeneral Commissioner of the Global Sports Forum Barcelona----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A networking hub encompassing many different disciplines""In 2010 our city will host the second Global Sports Forum Barcelona, an initiative we are anxious to promote and consolidate because we see sport as an economic driving force and a tool for bringing about the social cohesion that we are all working towards. In its inaugural year the Global Sports Forum Barcelona fulfilled the goal we had envisaged by providing an arena for debate and a meeting place. Experts from all over the globe and leading decision-makers in the world of sport offered a broadly representative view of sport as a global activity, exchanging points of view and enriching experiences in the process and helping to identify the key aspects where action is needed. Our goal at the 2010 Forum is to reinforce the status of the Global Sports Forum Barcelona as an interdisciplinary network, one that will be structured around eight major themes: Education; Sport Business; Health; Sport, Culture and Creativity; Sport in the City; Major Sport Events; Philanthropy and Cooperation; and Geopolitics. I would also like to draw attention to the creation of the Global Sports Forum Barcelona Awards, which will be presented at the Forum in recognition of innovative projects implemented by individuals and/or institutions in each of these eight areas. On 8-10 March 2010 Barcelona will once again have the opportunity to demonstrate its sporting spirit, a spirit it has showcased at the many elite sporting events the city has hosted over the years and which endures thanks to the central role sport plays in our way of life.
