PlayAble is a non-profit social venture with the aim of enhancing lives of people with disabilities through sports. By focusing on abilities rather than disabilities, Playable wants to bring individuals of all abilities off the sidelines and back into the game.
• Innovation
Many organizations use sport as a tool for social change but they often lack knowledge to include children with disabilities in their activities. Through the Innovation curriculum, Playable builds capacity on the topic of adapted sports. In doing so, the project adds value to these organizations by enabling them to run inclusive programmes while they stay involved in M&E.
• Substainability
Playable has developed a sustainable business model in which they assist well-established local (e.g. The Kids League) and international organizations (e.g. IPC) in the implementation of inclusive sport projects. The projects are sustainable due to experience of Playable’s partners and Playable itself sustainable due to sales of their consulting services.
• Actual impact
Research on the impact of the projects promoted by Playable showed that self-confidence and well-being of children with disabilities were improved through their sport participation. The athletes also mentioned a decreased feeling of stigmatization in the community. “Before, I thought I was useless. Now, I realize that I mean something.” Coach (with disability) Johnson
